Two of them by the Seas, three on the River shores,Four on the Top of Mountains and Three located in Paddy fields&meadows…Visiting &having the Blessings of these 12 Jyotir Lingas are the ultimate goal of most of the Hindus…
Omkareshwarara is located on th Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh. This is the place where Adi Sankara Bhagavadpada got His Diksha from His Guru Govinda Bhagavad Pada..One cannot imagine how Adi Sankara wd have crossed this mighty Narmada River,as evn with a Bridge connecting the main land, one cannot but admire the force of this perenial water flow underneath…
Omkareshwarar also derives its name from the Island Hill which is in an Ohm Shape if viewed from the top..
Ohm is the Pranava Mantra and the most sacred sound for the Hindus..Infact Upanishads strongly emphasise that Ohm sound is there in the Universe all the time irrspective of Space and Time..equivalent to the Omnipotent..
Credit for building this temple and maintaining it in the 17th Century goes to Ahilyabhai Holker! One shd enjoy the suoundings in Omkara Sound and I felt like staying there for ever and ever!
I decided to come back as I have to visit 3 more Jyotir Lingas before my call comes from the Heavens!
