“You may have Knowledge, but you may not have Wisdom!”
For me Sankara Jayanthi(15th May)is most sacred of all days in a Calendar Year, for I firmly believe, that He has unified the entire Universe thro’ His Advaithic Interpretations.…
In Manisha Panchakam,His revealations of
“You are not just your Body, but you are the ultimate Brahman, yourself”(Thathvamasi) has attracted many Foreigners including Carl Sagan, the great Astrophysicist(he is an Atheist but)to conclude in his famous Book, “The Cosmos” that “It is so difficult for a human Brain to understand the vast expanse of our Universe, but based on the various religious philosophies,I feel Hinduism is the only Relgion which comes closest to my thinking, that there is One Force which is beyond all our Conceptual skills!”
Einstein also said the same thing when he said “God never plays dice!”Stephn Hawking too, offlate, starts talking about the one point at the Bigbang..the One particle which cd have triggered the expansion..
1000s of Years ago Upanishads asked the same Question
“There is only One single force which is a witness to everything in this Universe!”
Sankara says in a very simple language”Gyanavihina,Sarva mathena”..
Gyanam(Wisdom)cannot be different from a Hindu to a Christian to a Muslim!Absolutely True!!
With my limited knowledge of Upanishads,I cannot but wonder how He was able to do so many Bhashyams including Brahma Sutra and Bhagavad Gita ,all the Upanishads,in a span of Just 32 Years! He is none other than God Parameswara Himself! No doubt about it!!
On this sacred day,I always plan to visit some important ancient temples and have completed 9 Jyotir lingas till date! This year I decided to have a dip in the very Purna River at Kalady where Sankara used to take His bath daily & visited His own Krishna Temple!
It was a sublime feeling!!The surroundings are so calm that one cd feel the aura of Adi Sankara everywhere!
I feel strongly that two Great Saints of India must be given the credit for making Sankara, a World reknown Saint, thro’ their sincere hardwork and determination in India and abroad…
1.Swami Vivekananda in the 19th Century
2.Kanchi Paramacharya in the 20th century.
Swami Vivekananda is a Non-Brahmin who became so well versed in Sanskrit and starting from His famous 9/11 speech “Brothers&Sisters”,His simple explanation of Advaithic Philosophy electrified wherever He was present.Just look at this question and answer in London when Swamiji was confronted by a hardcore Catholic girl Journalist (Swamiji talks about Nirguna Brahman)
“Swamiji..that means according to you God cannot be in any Human form?”for which spontaneously,Swamiji answers:
“Young Lady..Just imagine how a Cat cd imagine its own God?A cat can imagine only another Cat as its God!”
Simplest definition of Nirguna Brahman the omnipotent in such a few words!
I have had many personal experiences with Kanchi Paramacharya & I have written manyy Blogs on some amazing unbelievable, miracles that I have seen beyond belief.I am of confirmed opinion that He is Adi Sankara Himself in a new Avathar.Just imagine this dialogue which happened in 1935(In Search of Secret India by Paul Bunton,Rider Publication,Page 127)
It was World war time& Paul Brunton asks Swamiji:
“When do you think that Political and economic conditions everywhere will begin to improve?”
Swamiji:”A Change for the better is not easy to come by quickly. It is a process which must take need some time. How can things improve when Nations spend more each year on the weapons of Death?”(Imagine 1935!)
Paul:”There is nevertheless much talk of disarmament today.Does that count?”
Swamiji: “If you scrap your battleships and let your canons rust, that will not stop the war.People will continue to fight, even if they have to use sticks!”
Paul: “But what can be done to help matters?”
Swamiji: “Nothing but spiritual understanding between one nation and another ,and between rich and poor, will produce goodwill and thus bring real peace and prosperity.”
Paul: “That seems far off.Our outlook is hardly cheerful, then?”
Swamiji rests His arm a little more heavily upon His staff. “There is still God.”He remarks gently.
Paul:“If there is He is far away?”
Swamiji:“God has nothing but Love towards mankind!”
Paul: “Judging by the unhappiness and wretchedness which afflict the world today,He has nothing but indifference?”..Paul feels he has asked such a question impulsively! He writes ‘His Holiness looks at him strangely.Immediately’Paul writes, ‘regrets his hasty words!’
Swamiji: “The eyes of a patient man see deeper.God will use Human instruments to adjust matters at the appointed hour. The turmoil among nations, the moral wickedness among people and the suffering of miserable millions will provoke,as a reaction, some great Divinely inspired man to come to the rescue. In this sense, every century has its own saviour. The process works like a law of Physics. The greater wretchednss caused by spiritual ignorance, materialism, the greater will be the man who will arise to help th world.”
Paul:“Then do you expect someone to arise in our time too?”
Swamiji: “In our century, assuredly. The need of the world is so great and its spiritual dakness so thick that an inspired man of God will surely arise.”
Paul Brunton was so amazed after the conversation ,he surrenders himself to the Swamiji and wants Swamiji to take him as a Disciple for which Swamiji expresses His regret due to His proccupations and Paul immediately asks: “But I am told real masters are rare, and a European is unlikely to find them?”
Swamiji: “Truth exists. It can be found.”
Paul: “Can you not direct me to such a master, one who who you know is competent to give me proofs of the Reality of Higher Yoga.”
‘His Holiness’,writes Paul, ‘goes into protracted silence.’
The Swamiji says: “Yes.I know of two masters in India who cd give you what you wish. One of them lives in Benares, hidden away in a large house.Few people can have access to him.I cd send you to him but I fear that he may refuse to admit a European!”
Paul: “And the other..?”
Swamiji: “The other man lives in the interior ,farther south.I visited Him once and know Him to be a High Master.I recommend that you go to Him.”
Paul: “Who is He?”
Swamiji:”He is called the Maharishi. His abode is Arunachala, the Mountain of the Holy Beacon, which is in the territory of North Arcot.Shall I provide you with full instructions ,so that you may discover Him?”
Paul writes.. ‘A Picture flashes suddenly before my mind’s eye.Paul says he has a guide who will take him there and before leaving,Swamiji asks Paul: “I have a request to make!”
Paul: “With pleasure!”
Swamiji: “Promise me that you will not leave South India before have met this Maharishi!”
Paul writes ‘I read His eyes in a sincere desire to help me.The promise is given.
Swamiji concludes: “I see a light in you.You will discover that which you seek.”
Paul Brunton travels all over India meeting various Magicians,(He was present in Calcutta when a magician swallows nitric acid, broken bottles in the prsence of Dr.Bose Physicist!)Saints and was about to board the ship in Mumbai to go back home, when he was suddenly affected by diarrhoea.
He remembers His promise to Swamiji not to leave India without seeing the Maharishi. He tears His Cruise Ticket and surrenders himslf to the lotus feet fo Ramana Maharishi.
Later on he bequeths his entire wealth in Switzerland to Ramanshram!
One must read this book to find out that as early as in 1935,Paul comes to India with a set of ‘who is who?’ in Indian Saints and magicians..He had only one name in the south..that of Kanchi Paramacharya who was at that time just 40 yrs old..He wdn’t hav gone to Ramana Maharishi but for Kanchi Paramacharya’s above encounter..
I,as a purest advaithin, have only this to say..
If we talk of Kanchi,Sringeri,Iyers,Iyengars,Hindus,Muslims,Christians etc….
Well we will take another Million years to get Gyanam, which according to Adi Sankara
is the only way to Moksha!
