Mozart’s Twinkle Twinkle Star is universally admired by all
and was more so by the Senior Citizens of Madhampatti,Yesterday!
For a pure Madurai Mani Addict like me,both my daughters chose to specialise
the elder in Piano and the younger,a leading Soprano, probably the only Indian ever@ Radcliffe Choir!
It was a happy evening when Charu gave a Piano Concert at Madhampatti!
From Bach to Beethoven,it was a happy evening for me and mywife, when
other Senior Citizens too probably enjoyed her pieces and anecdotes!
Charu started playing the Piano when we were in Nigeria@ the age of 5 ,thanks to a nice Ghanian Teacher,Abadu..She gave a thrilling performance at 6 “Its a Small World after all”at Ijebuode Indian Association, when nearly 1000 Indians and the Indian High Commissioner Srinivasan, came and literally lifted her after this wonderful performance!
In the same Function my 3yr old younger one,Sharmi participated in the famous Sound of Music Song”So Long Farewell!”and when she ,left alone on the stage, sang”So long..Farewell!”that was the most memorable moment of my life!
I expressed my happiness of that moment by putting this puc below as my Face Photo for Sulekha Blogs!
Charu was lucky to have had a great Piano Teacher in Mrs.Gita Menon(see the blog) and Charu broke many records at Trinity College of Music,London. She won thePrestigious Hannam Clarke Award at Grade 8,the highest award in 1992 amidst 40000 participants from all over the World! She won the Cecil Goshin Shield instituted 1912 -3 times in Madras and violinist L.Subramaniam is the only other one!Mrs.Menon
Probably this helped her to choose Princeton for UG with Full scholarship, tho’ she had similar scholarships from Yale,Colombia,Amherst,Stanford,to name a few!
She did her master’s in Music@Manhattan School of Music, where she had played with YoYoMa too!
I firmly believe my devotion to Madurai Mani and Mohanam only has blessed me with such gifted daughters!
I thank Him for His unmeasurable Grace!
