Amidst many places I have visited,Tata Coffee Estates at Coorg is the most memorable..Whatever the Tatas do there is a Touch of Stylish elegance.Once VVS Laxman was asked about Sachin’s knock, when both played very well..He said,”I have also driven some balls thro’ Extra cover but when Sachin does it there is an Extra cover for the shot from everyone.Thats Sachin!”
Sameway,Tatas does magic in whatever they touch..a touch of Class!
Tata’s Coffee Estates at Polybetta will make you feel you are in Scotland! The way they welcome you(anyone can book in advance for just Rs750 perhead for an Estate tour)at the beautiful HO and take you around the Coffee Estates in a specially built Van(see pic)with an experienced Guide.. The hourlong tour ends in a British Style Thanneer Mulla Bungalow with a High
Tea(shd we say Coffee?)The Snacks themselves wd have cost me a 1000 in any of the Taj Group of Hotels.. Its a visit one must undertake and to know the extent to which Tatas have done an amazing job to Export their seeds to Starbucks!
Coffee owes its origin to Ethiopia, from a Kingdom called Kaffa and the Arabs lived on this drink in interior deserts..reason for Arabic roots! Another version for Coffee’s origin is, Omar, an Arab magician, who was known for his ability to cure the sick through prayer, was once exiled from Mocha,Yemen,to a desert cave near Ousab. Starving, Omar chewed berries from nearby shrubbery, but found them to be bitter. He tried roasting the seeds to improve the flavor, but they became hard. He then tried boiling them to soften the seed, which resulted in a fragrant brown liquid. Upon drinking the liquid Omar was revitalized and sustained for days. As stories of this “miracle drug” reached Mocha, Omar was asked to return and was made a saint. From Ethiopia, the coffee plant was introduced into the Arab World through Egypt and Yemen. Today,Coffee is the most sought after drink, all over the World, and the three smart young students from Seattle,Baldwin,Bauker and Seigl, made a name for themselves making quick bucks out of selling Coffee Seeds@Starbucks in 71,later on to be taken over by Schultz and is to make Headlines everywhere! I felt proud after this visit, after all,India has such paradises too, where Tatas have meticulously planned even the Housings for their Labour force!
One can book in advance and stay at this Unique Bungalow too to enjoy their hospitality, more intimately!
Long live this Tata Aroma!
